Pararescuemen (also known as PJs) are Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) and Air Combat Command (ACC) Operators tasked with recovery and medical treatment of personnel in humanitarian and combat environments.
As members of Air Force Special Operations, Pararescue /
PJ Specialists Rescue and Recover downed aircrews from hostile or otherwise unreachable areas. They are attached to other SOF teams from all Branches to conduct Special Operations as appropriate.
The process of becoming a "PJ" is known informally as "Superman School". Almost two years long, it's among the longest Special Operations training courses in the world.
