Air Force Pararescue Emblem
It is my duty as a Pararescueman to save life and to aid the injured. I will be prepared at all times to perform my assigned duties quickly and efficiently, placing these duties before personal desires and comforts.
These things we do, that others may live.
- Lt Col Richard Kight
Pararescuemen (also known as PJs) are Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) and Air Combat Command (ACC) Operators tasked with recovery and medical treatment of personnel in humanitarian and combat environments.
As members of Air Force Special Operations, Pararescue (PJ) Specialists Rescue and Recover downed aircrews from hostile or otherwise unreachable areas. They are attached to other SOF teams from all Branches to conduct Special Operations as appropriate.
The process of becoming a "PJ" is known informally as "Superman School". Almost two years long, it's among the longest Special Operations training courses in the world.
