The Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) is the U.S. Army combat service recognition decoration awarded to soldiers - Enlisted men and Officers holding Colonel rank or below, who personally fought in active ground combat while an assigned member of either an Infantry or a Special Forces unit.

10 years after authorizing the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Army approved the addition of stars to the CIB indicating that the Soldier fought in more than one war. This is the Third Award Combat Infantry Badge, presented to Soldiers who have personally fought in 3 separate wars. It is identical to the CIB plus the addition of two 5-point stars centered on top.
